Amy Adams Denied Graphic SNL Sketch to Protect Young ‘Enchanted’ Fans

Amy Adams recently shared a story from her time hosting “Saturday Night Live” in 2008 during a guest appearance on “Late Night With Seth Meyers.” The actress revealed that she turned down a sketch idea from Andy Samberg that she deemed too graphic for her young fans of the fairytale comedy “Enchanted,” which had been released just four months prior.

The sketch in question involved a couple in a park, where the man gets bitten by a spider and reveals a graphic last wish to his partner. Adams, who had just portrayed a wholesome princess in “Enchanted,” felt it was important to maintain a certain image for her young audience and declined the sketch.

“I was so keenly aware of all the young girls that were watching ‘Enchanted,'” Adams explained. “And I didn’t want to be the princess singing about that particular act, you know?”

Andy Samberg also reflected on the incident in a separate interview with Meyers, expressing his admiration for Adams’ decision. He recalled a moment when a mother and her young daughter approached Adams, and he realized the impact of her choice to protect her image.

“Within five minutes, a mother and her little girl walked up and the look on the little girl’s face upon seeing Amy Adams, I was like, ‘Oh, she was so right,'” Samberg said. “And it was very instructive for me. It’s not something I even ever thought about in our line of work, you know what I mean? Like, she actually has an obligation and a responsibility to those kids, and she took it really seriously. And I remember being really impressed by that.”

Adams’ decision to prioritize her young fans’ perception of her demonstrates her commitment to maintaining a positive and wholesome image. It serves as a reminder of the impact that public figures can have on their audience, especially younger viewers.
