Android 17 Fixes Quick Settings Gripe
Google is currently in the process of developing Android 17, with the latest beta version of the operating system bringing some exciting updates. The third beta of Android 17 is now available, and users can test it out on compatible Pixel phones by enrolling in the Android Beta Program. As a Pixel 9 Pro user, I have personally experienced one particular change in this beta version that has brought me a great deal of satisfaction.
One of the most notable changes in Android 17 beta 3 is the separation of the Wi-Fi and mobile data options into distinct quick setting tiles. This update comes as a welcome surprise, especially for users like myself who have been frustrated by the combined ‘Internet’ quick setting introduced in Android 12 back in 2021. This consolidation required additional taps to toggle Wi-Fi and mobile data on and off, which has been a source of annoyance for many users.
With the new separate quick setting tiles for Wi-Fi and mobile data, users can now easily switch each option on and off with a single tap. A long press on the tiles will open the existing Internet menu, although this functionality may evolve in future iterations of the software. By default, the new tiles appear as small squares, but users have the flexibility to customize and adjust them according to their preferences.
In addition to the improved data toggling experience, Android 17 is expected to be fully launched in June or July, preceding the release of the Pixel 11 phones. The upcoming OS, codenamed ‘Cinnamon Bun,’ boasts a range of exciting features, including a new turbo charging capability, a contact picker, and a refreshed blurred visual style.
As we anticipate the official release of Android 17, users can look forward to exploring the various enhancements and innovations that this update will bring to their devices. Stay tuned to find out if your phone will be eligible for the Android 17 upgrade and experience the latest advancements in the world of Android operating systems.
