Android 17 Won’t Go Liquid Glass Route

Google has recently addressed concerns about the possibility of Android 17 adopting Apple’s controversial ‘Liquid Glass’ design language in its upcoming operating system. The speculation arose after a teaser video sparked fears among users about a potential shift in Android’s UI design.

In response to these concerns, Google’s Head of Android, Sameet Samat, announced that the company will be hosting a special Android Show event on May 12, leading up to the full rollout of Android 17. The teaser video, featuring the iconic Android mascot switching from a familiar green color to a semi-translucent effect, raised eyebrows among users who noted similarities to Apple’s Liquid Glass design in iOS 26.

Despite the visual similarities, Samat reassured users that Google has no plans to adopt Apple’s design language, stating, “Don’t worry. Not happening!” This declaration puts to rest any speculations about Android 17 veering towards a more complex and busy design aesthetic akin to Apple’s recent UI changes.

The transition from green to translucent in the teaser video has left many intrigued about what Google has in store for Android 17. Fortunately, all will be revealed at the upcoming event, where Google is expected to unveil details about the new OS and provide insights into its efforts to merge ChromeOS and Android into a unified desktop experience called Aluminium OS.

Google’s commitment to maintaining a clean and crisp interface for Android 17, distinct from Apple’s design choices, highlights the company’s dedication to providing a unique and user-friendly experience for Android users. With the promise of exciting developments on the horizon, fans can look forward to learning more about the future of Android at the upcoming event.
