Anime trading card sales are ending in armed robberies in Gage Park, police say
A series of robberies in Chicago have left residents on edge after a man targeted sellers of anime trading cards through social media marketplace listings. According to Chicago police, the perpetrator has robbed at least three people at gunpoint in the 5200 and 5300 blocks of South Kedzie Avenue.
The incidents took place on March 17, March 28, and March 29, with each victim posting an ad online to sell their anime trading cards. The offender, posing as a buyer, would express interest in the cards and arrange to meet in person. Upon meeting, the seller would be directed inside a building lobby where the offender would brandish a handgun and steal the trading cards before fleeing the scene on foot.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic man between 20 and 30 years old, standing at around 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing approximately 200 pounds. He sports a beard, wears black-framed glasses, and is often seen in dark clothing.
