Antoni Porowski on ‘Queer Eye’ Drama, Karamo Brown, ‘Best of the World’

Antoni Porowski, known for his role on the popular show “Queer Eye,” is embarking on a new chapter in his career. After nearly a decade on the show, Porowski is transitioning to a new adventure with his show “Best of the World With Antoni Porowski.” The show, which he hosts and executive produces for National Geographic, takes him to Mexico City, London, Paris, and New York City. It is set to premiere on June 7 and will be available for streaming on Disney+ and Hulu the following day.

The transition comes four months after the end of his time on “Queer Eye,” a show that garnered him a legion of LGBTQ+ fans and foodies. However, the end of the show was not without its controversy. Karamo Brown, one of Porowski’s co-stars on the show, pulled out of a “CBS Mornings” segment in January citing fears of bullying and emotional abuse. This added fuel to reports of tension behind the scenes, particularly after allegations of emotionally abusive behavior by another cast member, Jonathan Van Ness. Porowski reflects on the end of the show, expressing sadness that it overshadowed the hard work of everyone involved in the show.

Originally created in 2003 for Bravo, the Netflix reboot of “Queer Eye” quickly gained popularity for its message of community and inclusivity. Porowski acknowledges that there was drama and controversy surrounding the show’s final season but emphasizes that the message of the show was always genuine and meaningful.

As he moves forward in his career, Porowski is focused on telling human stories and connecting with others. His new show allows him to experience different cultures and cuisines, a passion he developed during his time on “Queer Eye.” Traveling the world during a time of political unrest has opened his eyes to the diverse experiences of people around the globe.

Despite the challenges and uncertainties of this transition period, Porowski remains hopeful about the future. He is grateful for the opportunities he has had and the connections he has made through his work. As he continues to explore new adventures and share stories with audiences, Porowski’s commitment to authenticity and connection remains unwavering. Antoni Porowski, known for his role in the popular show “Queer Eye,” continues to showcase his queerness and desire for community in the episode titled “Best of the World.” The London episode culminates in a vibrant drag bar, where Porowski immerses himself in the electric atmosphere of a night out.

Reflecting on his experience, Porowski shares, “Part of my history and my identifying as a queer person, and also being a public figure and the attention that draws and the electricity it brings into a room can cause me anxiety, sometimes, if I’m not fully at peace with myself. But showing up there was so beautifully chaotic.”

The drag bar scene in London is a memorable one for Porowski, who is captivated by the diverse range of performers. He describes, “Some drag queens and kings were ultra-refined and had their steps perfectly choreographed, and others were just so wacky and all over the place. There were several moments where I forgot the cameras were rolling and I was just screaming at the top of my lungs, not conserving my energy. I literally couldn’t speak the next day because I yelled so much. It was a lot of honey and ginger chamomile tea as I was passing out in my London hotel that night.”

As Porowski looks back on his journey with “Queer Eye,” he emphasizes the unique dynamics of the fab five. He notes, “We were cast as complete strangers. The only person I’d ever heard of was [Jonathan Van Ness] with ‘Gay of Thrones,’ because I used to watch it. We didn’t know who we were, and we’re very different people, different ways of navigating the world as is the case. We were put into this thing together, and we all dealt with things in very different ways.”

Porowski’s experience at the drag bar in London serves as a reminder of the beauty of diversity and the power of finding community in unexpected places. His journey on “Queer Eye” has not only brought him into the spotlight but has also allowed him to connect with audiences worldwide on a deeper level.
