Beta Film Boards Romantic Dramedy Series ‘La Vida Barcelona’
Beta Film has recently announced that they will be handling the world sales for the new romantic dramedy series titled “La Vida Barcelona.”
Directed by Katina Medina Mora, known for her work on “Emily in Paris” and “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” the series follows a female-driven story set in Barcelona. Alongside Mora, Charlotte Scott-Wilson and Ayla Spaans are also directing, bringing their own unique perspectives to the project.
The series has just wrapped shooting in Barcelona and will soon move on to Amsterdam. The cast includes Dutch actress Holly Mae Brood as Julia, alongside Priscilla Delgado and Greta Fernández.
“La Vida Barcelona” tells the story of Julia, a young Dutch designer sent to Barcelona by her mother to undermine a rival agency. However, Julia finds herself falling in love with the city, her new job, and two men, leading to a series of unexpected events.
With eight half-hour episodes, the series is a collaboration between Millstreet Films, Videoland, and Beta Film. Following the success of “Maxima” and the upcoming spin-off “The Other Royals – A Maxima Story,” this project marks the third collaboration between the three entities.
The series also stars Martiño Rivas and Agustín Della Corte, with scripts written by Emily Reekers, Jikkie Schelling, and Alix van der Goes. Produced by Rachel van Bommel of Millstreet Films for Videoland in the Netherlands, Nestor Hernandez serves as the executive producer for Beta Film.
Supported by various funding programs, including the Netherlands Film Fund Production Incentive, the Spanish Tax Rebate, and the Creative Europe MEDIA program, “La Vida Barcelona” is set to attract audiences from around the world.
Justus Riesenkampff, exec VP Nordics and Benelux at Beta Film, expressed excitement about the project, noting the top talents involved and the potential for the series to compete with premium English-language productions in the genre.
Van Bommel emphasized the importance of the series being female-driven, both in front of and behind the camera, highlighting the themes of ambition, identity, and mother-daughter relationships.
Medina Mora shared her thoughts on the series, describing it as a story about identity and self-discovery in a new environment. Barcelona plays a significant role in Julia’s journey, allowing her to explore parts of herself she never knew existed.
Overall, “La Vida Barcelona” promises to be a compelling and relatable series, blending themes of ambition, romance, and self-discovery against the backdrop of a vibrant city. With a talented cast and crew, the show is poised to make a mark in the world of international television.
