Two Juveniles Arrested for Armed Robberies on Near North Side
Chicago police have apprehended two juveniles who are accused of a series of armed robberies, including one incident where a woman was held up at gunpoint while dropping off her daughter at daycare on the Near North Side last month.
The boys, aged 15 and 17, were taken into custody on Tuesday in the 1100 block of South Hamilton Avenue, which is also where Cook County’s juvenile justice center is located, indicating that they may have previous legal matters pending.
The crime spree allegedly began on March 15 when the suspects robbed a 35-year-old man in the 7600 block of South Exchange Avenue in South Shore.
Just two days later, on March 17, a 26-year-old woman was targeted in the 1100 block of North Cleveland Avenue around 9:17 a.m. after dropping off her 4-year-old daughter at daycare. The woman was approached by a group of armed robbers who stole her belongings before fleeing in a silver car.
Police were on the lookout for four suspects armed with rifles, traveling in a small silver car with Kentucky license plates. The vehicle was later recovered on the South Side.
Approximately 20 minutes after the daycare robbery, the juveniles allegedly committed another armed robbery, this time targeting a 34-year-old man in the 7500 block of South Exchange Avenue.
Both boys are facing three counts of armed robbery with a firearm, according to the police.
