Bryant Park Grill saga boils over — as owner expected to stay while fighting eviction
The Bryant Park Grill Saga: Court Rules in Favor of Park’s Manager
The ongoing Bryant Park Grill saga reached a boiling point as a court decision allows the park’s manager to evict the current operator, Ark Restaurants, from the iconic space. The company set to take over with Jean-Georges Vongerichten has backed out of lease negotiations, according to Realty Check.
A state Supreme Court judge recently ruled in favor of the nonprofit Bryant Park Corporation, granting them the right to evict the restaurant operated by Michael Weinstein’s Ark Restaurants.
Corporation lawyer Gil Feder expressed satisfaction with the decision, stating, “We are very happy with the decision.”
However, Weinstein plans to appeal the ruling, potentially extending his time at the venue for another year. Bryant Park Corporation president Daniel Biederman had declined to renew Ark’s lease, aiming to replace it with superchef Jean-Georges Vongerichten and Seaport Entertainment Group.
In a surprising turn of events, Seaport Entertainment Group is no longer involved in the operating capacity of Bryant Park Grill as initially planned. The spokesperson mentioned that they continue to own 25% of Jean-Georges Management.
Vongerichten’s CEO, Lois Freedman, confirmed that if a lease is signed, they will be the operators without Seaport Entertainment Group’s involvement.
Despite the uncertainties surrounding the property’s future, Bryant Park looks forward to welcoming a new modern restaurant concept soon.
Michael McMahon, a consultant to Biederman, mentioned ongoing negotiations with Jean-Georges for a management agreement. He also hinted at the possibility of Seaport Entertainment Group re-entering with a capital investment in the project.
The glass-wrapped dining venue will continue to attract visitors this summer amidst the legal battles and negotiations.
