California McDonald’s manager speaks out after coworker threw oil on him

The manager of a McDonald’s restaurant in Northern California is speaking out for the first time since a horrifying incident where a coworker allegedly threw scorching hot oil on him after a shift. Jacob Smith, 20, sustained third-degree burns to his face, neck, hands, and shoulders in the attack and is currently undergoing specialized treatment at UC Davis Medical Center.

In a TikTok video, Smith expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support he has received after the traumatic event that left him with severe injuries. With bandages covering his arms and neck in his hospital room, he described the pain he has been enduring, calling it one of the hardest challenges of his life. Despite the difficulties, he expressed his thankfulness for the outpouring of support through a successful GoFundMe campaign.

The attack took place on May 30 when Smith’s coworker, 23-year-old Jalani Bluett, allegedly threw hot oil on him. Following the incident, Bluett went missing before being located by authorities and taken into custody. Smith’s mother, Amber Smith, initiated a fundraiser to help cover living expenses and medical costs for her son, who is currently unable to work. The campaign has nearly reached its goal of $200,000.

Amber described her son as hardworking and responsible, with plans for the future, including an upcoming marriage. The unexpected tragedy has caused a major setback in Jacob’s life when he should have been looking forward to building his future. The community has rallied around the young manager, showing their support through donations and well wishes.

Smith has undergone multiple surgeries, including a skin graft procedure, to aid in his recovery. Meanwhile, Bluett faces charges of battery causing serious bodily injury and assault with a deadly weapon. He is scheduled to appear in Sutter Superior Court for further proceedings.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear at this time. Amber expressed her confidence in Jacob’s strength and resilience, believing that with the support of loved ones and the community, he will overcome this challenging chapter in his life. The California Post has reached out to the Yuba County Sheriff’s Office for additional information on the case.
