Central Park hotel next to homeless shelter to close, staff says
A hotel that was once part of Denver’s former airport and now neighbors a homeless shelter is closing its doors. The Courtyard by Marriott in Central Park, located at 7415 E. 41st Ave., is no longer taking reservations as of today, according to a front desk staffer. However, walk-in guests may still be able to secure a room for the time being.
While no specific closing date or reason for the closure was provided by the staff, it was mentioned earlier in the week that the property is set to be sold to an operator of an assisted living facility. Despite this, public records indicate that no sale has been finalized yet. The hotel has been owned by Clarion Partners, a global real estate investment firm, for several decades.
Established in 1987 to cater to Stapleton Airport (which closed in 1995), the hotel has proudly sported the Marriott flag for many years. Adjacent to the hotel is a former DoubleTree by Hilton property, now serving as a homeless shelter since late 2023 after being purchased by the city of Denver for $43 million in August 2024.
Several reviews of the Marriott mention its proximity to the shelter, with one recent Google review describing the area as filled with homeless individuals and open drug use. A BusinessDen reporter observed tents on and near the shelter property, including one with a chimney.
On the opposite side of the shelter, a former bank building at 4000 Quebec St. sits vacant after Partner Colorado Credit Union closed its branch due to security concerns in May 2024. The building has been listed for sale since then but has yet to attract a buyer.
