Cyclospora Outbreak Tied to Taco Bell Lettuce Sickens Over 1,600 Across 34 States
Health officials are on high alert as a major Cyclospora outbreak has been linked to shredded iceberg lettuce served at Taco Bell locations. The FDA and CDC have traced the source to Taylor Farms in Mexico, identifying at least 1,644 cases and 141 hospitalizations nationwide.
The outbreak primarily impacts five states: Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and West Virginia. Residents in these areas are advised to avoid food items containing shredded iceberg lettuce from these restaurants. For those preparing produce at home, health experts note that cooking produce to 158°F effectively kills the parasite.
Philadelphia Air Quality: Code Purple

While food safety is a concern, residents in the Northeast are facing environmental hazards. Philadelphia has issued a Code Purple air quality alert due to wildfire smoke drifting from Canada and Minnesota. This "Very Unhealthy" designation means everyone, regardless of health status, should limit outdoor activity. If you must go outside, officials recommend using an N95 or KN95 mask, as standard cloth masks do not filter fine particulate matter (PM2.5).
Viral Risks: The TikTok Benadryl Challenge

Parents are also being urged to monitor their children’s social media activity. A dangerous "Benadryl challenge" on TikTok has recently landed several teens in the ICU. The trend involves taking toxic doses of diphenhydramine to induce hallucinations, which can lead to cardiac arrest and seizures.
