The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) made a significant announcement regarding the arrest of two individuals following the shooting of a US Park Police officer in southeast Washington, DC. Darren Foster, 21, from southeast DC, was apprehended shortly after the incident on Monday, while Asheile Foster, 22, also from southeast DC, was arrested the following day. Both suspects are facing charges of assault on a federal police officer with a gun.
The incident unfolded around 7:30 p.m. on Monday while the officer was conducting an investigation in an unmarked Tesla vehicle. Two armed individuals approached the officer’s vehicle and opened fire, striking him in the upper body. Despite being injured, the officer managed to drive away and was later transported to a local hospital by the US Park Police’s aviation unit. Fortunately, the officer’s injuries were deemed non-life-threatening, and he has since been discharged from the hospital.
According to reports, the suspects appeared to be aware that the person inside the Tesla was a law enforcement officer, although the motive behind the attack remains unclear. Authorities conducted a raid on a nearby residence the following day, with officers entering the premises with guns drawn and a K-9 unit also responding to the scene.
The investigation into the shooting is being handled by detectives from the MPD’s NIBIN Investigations Unit, which includes agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, as well as US Park Police detectives. The collaborative efforts of these law enforcement agencies aim to gather evidence and determine the circumstances surrounding the attack.
