DeSantis doesn’t rule out a 2028 presidential run: ‘We’ll see’
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis recently hinted at a possible White House run in a conversation with Fox News host Sean Hannity. When asked directly if he would run for president again, DeSantis responded with a non-committal “We’ll see.” The 47-year-old Republican governor is term-limited and is set to leave office in January 2027, just before the 2028 presidential primaries.
DeSantis, who was considered a strong contender in the 2024 GOP primaries, eventually dropped out of the race after coming in second in the Iowa caucuses, where he was significantly behind former President Donald Trump. DeSantis believes that if Trump had not been in the race, he would have garnered the support of a majority of the former president’s backers.
In a recent appearance on Hannity’s podcast, DeSantis mentioned that conservative voters who supported Trump would have likely backed him if Trump had not been running. However, due to the timing of the 2024 election, things did not work out in his favor.
Recent polls for the 2028 GOP presidential primary show Vice President JD Vance as the clear frontrunner, with 40% support in a survey by Echelon Insights. Following Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio polled at 16% support, while DeSantis only received 5% backing, placing him behind Donald Trump Jr., who garnered 9% support.
A survey by the Saint Anselm College Survey Center of New Hampshire primary voters also showed DeSantis with 5% support, tied with former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley. Vance led the polls in New Hampshire with 46% support, followed by Rubio at 27%.
Hannity’s full interview with DeSantis is set to air soon, where more insights into the governor’s political future may be revealed. As DeSantis keeps his options open for another White House run, the political landscape for the 2028 presidential race continues to evolve.
