Disturbing details on death of young woman who died on Carnival cruise near Catalina Island
The tragic incident involving a young woman who jumped off a Carnival cruise ship near Catalina Island has been confirmed as a suicide by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. Briana Miller, 24, reportedly leapt off the balcony of the Carnival Firenze following an argument with her family and tragically landed on the deck below on April 27. Her family immediately alerted the ship’s staff after the incident occurred.
The medical examiner’s report revealed that Miller tragically succumbed to “blunt trauma” as a result of the fall. The FBI has also confirmed that they are actively investigating her death, with a law enforcement source disclosing that Miller’s body was removed from the ship and her family departed the same day.
Miller and her family were on a four-night cruise with stops at Catalina Island and Ensenada when the unfortunate incident took place. The FBI’s involvement in the investigation indicates the seriousness of the situation, although specific details are being withheld due to the ongoing nature of the inquiry.
Carnival spokeswoman Julie Leonardi expressed condolences over the passenger’s death and mentioned that the victim was traveling with family members who promptly informed the ship’s crew about the tragic event. Law enforcement officials were present on board the ship while it was docked in Catalina Island to gather information related to the incident.
Despite the efforts to uncover more details about Miller and her background, information remains scarce. The Carnival cruise ship involved in the incident departs from Long Beach and has a capacity of up to 4,126 guests and 1,425 crew members. It spans a length of 1,061 feet, offering a luxurious experience to its passengers.
In a separate incident, a crew member went overboard from a Norwegian Cruise Line ship off the Massachusetts coast in April, prompting an extensive search and rescue operation. Surveillance footage captured the employee falling from the side of the Norwegian Breakaway into frigid waters approximately 12 miles off Cape Cod.
The series of tragic events serve as a reminder of the risks and challenges associated with maritime travel, emphasizing the importance of safety protocols and vigilance on board cruise ships. The investigations by the FBI and other authorities aim to shed light on the circumstances surrounding these incidents and ensure accountability where necessary.
