Tragedy Strikes as Drunken Driver Causes Fatal Crash on Eisenhower Expressway

A 25-year-old man, Benjamin Farraday, was tragically killed in a car crash on the Eisenhower Expressway as he was heading home from a friend’s graduation celebration in Chicago. The incident, caused by a drunken and unlicensed driver, has left a devastating impact on multiple lives.

Details of the Crash

Farraday and two friends had ordered an Uber for their journey back to Wheaton. While traveling west on the Ike, the Uber was forced to stop in traffic near Ashland Avenue. It was during this standstill that a GMC Yukon driven by 21-year-old Jose Perez Marin crashed into the rear of the Uber, causing a chain reaction collision with other vehicles.

The impact of the crash was severe, with data indicating that the Yukon was traveling at 65 mph just before the collision. Despite attempts to slow down, the Yukon still struck the Uber at a high speed, resulting in fatal injuries to Farraday.

Legal Ramifications

Following the crash, Perez Marin was found to have alcohol in his system, with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.137, well above the legal limit. He faces multiple charges, including aggravated DUI causing a fatal crash. The court has ordered his detention pending trial.

Impact on Victims

The crash not only claimed the life of Benjamin Farraday but also left several others seriously injured. Farraday’s friends sustained significant injuries, including a broken nose, brain bleed, and facial wounds. The occupants of the other vehicles involved also suffered various degrees of harm, including a young infant with facial cuts.

The tragic incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of drunk driving and the devastating consequences it can have on innocent lives.
