FBI seeks more victims of Aurora school board member charged with child sexual abuse
The FBI has announced an expansion of their investigation into Michael Robert Herbert, a school board member from Aurora who is accused of sexually abusing a boy for several years. They are seeking to locate any additional victims who may have been targeted by Herbert, who primarily victimized boys between 2013 and 2022.
The investigation into Herbert began in December 2025 when a man in his 20s came forward to Aurora police, alleging that he had been sexually abused by Herbert when he was a young teenager. Prosecutors have stated that Herbert used his position of trust within the Aurora community to groom and manipulate the victim over a period of years, providing gifts, money, and other incentives as part of his abusive behavior.
Last month, Herbert was charged by Kane County officials with involuntary sexual servitude of a minor, criminal sexual assault of a minor, and several other related felonies. As the investigation progressed, law enforcement discovered evidence suggesting that Herbert may have had similar contact with other juvenile male victims in different jurisdictions.
If anyone believes they may have been victimized by Herbert or has information relevant to the investigation, they are encouraged to visit the FBI’s website at fbi.gov/LetYourVoiceBeHeard. Responses are confidential, and agents may follow up to gather additional information from potential victims.
This ongoing investigation highlights the importance of speaking out against abuse and holding perpetrators accountable for their actions. It is crucial for anyone who may have been victimized to come forward and share their experiences in order to seek justice and prevent further harm.
