Ferrari mocked for new model fans say looks like an iPhone

Ferrari’s debut of its first all-electric supercar, the $640,000 Ferrari Luce, has sparked controversy among enthusiasts. Critics have likened the sleek vehicle to an “iPhone on wheels,” expressing concerns that the iconic Italian brand may be drifting towards a California tech aesthetic.

The futuristic four-door, five-seat electric car, named “Luce” which means “light” in Italian, was created in collaboration with former Apple design guru Jony Ive, known for his work on products like the iPhone and iPod through his company LoveFrom based in San Francisco.

Online commentators were quick to draw parallels between the Luce and Apple’s design language, with some suggesting that the EV looks more Silicon Valley than Maranello, the home of Ferrari in Italy.

Some online jokes even suggested that removing the Ferrari badge would reveal an Apple logo underneath, highlighting the influence of tech design on the new Ferrari creation.

Amidst the criticism, Ferrari’s chief design officer, Flavio Manzoni, defended the unique design of the Luce, emphasizing its role as a “bridge between San Francisco and Maranello.”

Despite the pushback, Ferrari is embracing the Luce as a significant step forward in its evolution as an automaker. CEO Benedetto Vigna sees the electric supercar as a “Leapfrog moment” for the brand, although traditional fans remain skeptical about the shift towards electric vehicles.
