Ferrari’s new $640K electric car already a massive fail — and looks just like a $30K Nissan: ‘Monstrosity’
Ferrari’s New Electric Vehicle Sparks Controversy
Ferrari faced a 5% drop in its shares following the unveiling of its new $640,000 electric vehicle, dubbed the “Luce.” Car enthusiasts were quick to criticize the design, with some calling it a “monstrosity” and drawing comparisons to more affordable models. The car, designed by former Apple executive Jony Ive’s firm, boasts impressive performance metrics, including a 0-60 mph time of 2.5 seconds and a top speed of 192 mph, despite being powered by half a ton of battery cells.
However, critics question the market appeal of the Luce, as it deviates from Ferrari’s classic design language and emphasizes its electric capabilities at a time when many automakers are reconsidering their EV strategies. Some online commentators pointed out similarities between the Luce and the Nissan Leaf, an electric SUV priced significantly lower at around $30,000.
One Reddit user expressed disappointment, stating, “I would have hoped the electric Ferrari would be the CHEAPEST in the lineup. But instead, they did the opposite and made it look like a wooden Ikea toy.” Another user criticized the price point, questioning the value of the Ferrari badge compared to other fully equipped EVs on the market.
Despite the backlash, Ferrari plans to incorporate an “external amplification system” to simulate the traditional engine sound of the Luce. However, skeptics remain unconvinced, with one commenter sarcastically asking, “What’s it going to amplify? Tyre roar? Wind noise? Coil whine?”
The introduction of the Luce marks Ferrari’s foray into the electric vehicle market, aligning with its recent investment in EV production facilities. While some of its luxury competitors have scaled back their EV plans, Ferrari remains optimistic about the Luce’s potential success.
Time will tell whether the Luce will be a hit or a miss for Ferrari, as the luxury automaker navigates the evolving landscape of electric vehicles in the automotive industry.
