Florida Gov. DeSantis signs bill to rename Palm Beach airport after Trump
The Palm Beach International Airport, frequented by President Donald Trump on his trips to his Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, Florida, is poised to undergo a name change in his honor. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis recently signed a bill to rename the airport as the President Donald J. Trump International Airport.
The legislation, relating to “Commercial Service Airports,” passed both the Florida House and Senate earlier this year. The bill stipulates that the airport, currently known as Palm Beach International Airport, will be renamed as the President Donald J. Trump International Airport, pending approval from the Federal Aviation Administration and rights agreements.
The new name is expected to take effect on July 1, as per the state legislature. The move has stirred both support and opposition, with Eric Trump, one of the president’s sons, expressing pride in his involvement in the renaming process. White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller also commended the initiative on social media.
This renaming follows Trump’s interest in having other buildings named after himself, such as the Trump-Kennedy Center and the Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace. He has even considered renaming iconic locations like New York’s Penn Station and Washington’s Dulles Airport after himself. Reports suggest that Trump once proposed offering funding for a major infrastructure project in exchange for renaming both locations, although formal approval would be required from Congress.
