Floyd Mayweather facing felony charges for using bad check to buy $200,000 watch
Boxing Legend Floyd Mayweather Faces Felony Charges for Passing Bad Check
Floyd Mayweather, the renowned boxing legend, finds himself in hot water as he faces two felony charges for allegedly passing a bad check while purchasing a $200,000 watch in Las Vegas. Court records in Nevada indicate that Mayweather is charged with “theft, value $100,000 or greater” and “draw or pass check with intent to defraud, value $1,200 or greater.”
The 49-year-old boxer skipped his court hearing on Monday and was represented by his legal counsel instead. The criminal complaint was filed on Aug. 27, alleging that Mayweather wrote a $200,000 check to a Las Vegas resale store on Dec. 31, 2024, without sufficient funds in his account to cover the amount.
If convicted of fraud, Mayweather could face up to four years in prison and a $5,000 fine. Felony theft carries a more severe penalty of up to 20 years in prison and $15,000 in fines.

According to Marc Cook, an attorney representing Gold and Beyond, the store where Mayweather allegedly passed the bad check, the delay in legal action was due to their trust in Mayweather to rectify the situation. However, after prolonged non-payment for a watch Mayweather had for over a year, legal action was deemed necessary.
Despite earning over $1 billion during his boxing career, Mayweather has faced financial troubles post-retirement. He is embroiled in lawsuits with various parties, including owing $7.3 million in taxes to the IRS and being in a legal battle with Showtime Networks for over $340 million.
