Ford recalls more than 741,000 vehicles because faulty park system can lead to rollaways

Ford Motor Company has issued a recall for 741,195 vehicles due to a potential issue with the park system that could result in the vehicles rolling away, according to a notice from federal regulators. The affected vehicles include those equipped with park-by-wire functionality and 10R80 transmissions, such as the Lincoln Navigator and Expedition (model years 2018-2021), Explorer and Lincoln Aviator (model years 2020-2021), and F-150 pickup trucks (model years 2020-2021).

The recall was initiated after Ford identified a defect in approximately 1% of the affected vehicles. Drivers may notice a wrench warning light illuminating on the dashboard, indicating a problem with the park system. In some cases, the electronic parking brake may automatically engage if the vehicle does not shift into park mode when commanded.

To address the issue, owners of the recalled vehicles can take their vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to have the system software updated and any damaged transmission components replaced at no cost.

In addition to the park system recall, Ford is also recalling 36,046 Bronco vehicles with model years 2022 to 2026. The recall is related to improperly secured fender flares that may detach from the vehicle while driving, posing a hazard to drivers. Owners of the affected Bronco vehicles are advised to contact their local Ford dealership for further instructions on how to address the issue.

It is important for vehicle owners to stay informed about recalls and take prompt action to address any safety concerns. By following the instructions provided by Ford and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), drivers can ensure the safety and reliability of their vehicles on the road.
