Ford Recalls 1.4 Million F-150 Pickup Trucks Over Gearshift Issue
Ford Motor Company is issuing a recall for nearly 1.4 million F-150 pickup trucks due to a gearshift issue that poses a safety risk, as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The problem stems from a loss of signal between the transmission range sensor and the powertrain control module, causing certain F-150 trucks to unexpectedly downshift into second gear, potentially leading to a loss of vehicle control.
This recall impacts F-150 vehicles equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission manufactured between March 12, 2014, and August 18, 2017. Owners of affected vehicles may notice warning indicators such as a malfunction indicator light or wrench light on the dashboard, signaling a potential problem with the transmission range sensor.
According to the NHTSA report, Ford has received reports of two injuries and one accident that may be linked to the gearshift issue. To address the problem, Ford will be sending notification letters to affected vehicle owners starting April 27. Owners are advised to bring their F-150 to a Ford or Lincoln dealer for necessary updates or component replacements.
