Fugitive, 26, busted in Washington State for allegedly strangling dad to death in NYC apartment 3 years ago: cops

A 26-year-old fugitive was apprehended in Washington State, nearly three years after he allegedly strangled his father in the victim’s Bronx home, according to authorities and sources. Essa Kouyate has been charged with murder in the death of his father, Yaya Kouyate, who was discovered lifeless in the bathroom of his 12th-floor apartment on Hoe Avenue near Jennings Street in Charlotte Gardens on April 14, 2023. The city medical examiner’s office determined that the cause of death was homicide by compression of the neck.

Kouyate, who resided in Seedro-Wooley, a city known as the “gateway” to the North Cascades National Park, was apprehended there on December 16 by US Marshals, as per police and online records. He was held at the Skagit County Jail until Wednesday when he was transported back to New York City to face charges.
