Good & Gather snack, other nut mixes recalled due to salmonella risk

An Illinois-based food manufacturer is issuing a recall on several snack products due to potential contamination with salmonella, a bacteria that can cause serious illness. The recall, which was announced in a notice by the Food and Drug Administration, affects nut mixes and a corn mix produced by John B. Sanfilippo and Son under various brand names such as Southern Style Nuts, Fisher, Squirrel Brand, and Good & Gather.

One of the products included in the recall is the Good & Gather Mexican street corn-inspired trail mix, which was sold at Target stores. The other affected products were sold at different retail outlets, online, and through QVC. The recall was initiated as a precautionary measure after it was discovered that the snack mixes contained dry milk powder from California Dairies, which had been previously recalled.

Although the seasoning used in the products tested negative for salmonella before production, the company decided to recall the items to ensure consumer safety. Consumers who have purchased any of the recalled products are advised not to consume them and to return them to the store of purchase for a full refund or replacement.

Salmonella is a dangerous bacterial disease that can be transmitted through contaminated food or water. It poses a particular risk to young children, pregnant women, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems, as it can lead to severe infections and, in some cases, even death.

As always, it is crucial for consumers to stay informed about product recalls and to follow the guidelines provided by regulatory agencies to ensure their well-being. By being vigilant and proactive, we can collectively contribute to a safer and healthier food environment for everyone.
