Google Pixel Watch 5 may introduce First-ever Price Hike
The Pixel Watch 5 is the latest victim of RAMaggedon, as reports suggest that Google’s upcoming smartwatch will see a price increase. According to Tech Advisor, the base model of the Pixel Watch 5, a 41mm version without LTE, could start at £369/$399 at launch. This marks the first-ever price increase for the base model of a Pixel Watch, with previous models starting at $349 in the US and £349 in the UK.
The price hikes extend to other models as well. The 45mm non-LTE version remains the same price in the UK and only $20 more in the US, while the 45mm LTE version faces a £50/$80 increase. The most significant price increase is reserved for the 41mm LTE model, which could cost £70/$100 more than its predecessor.
While these price points are not confirmed, Dealabs, a French site known for its reliable Pixel news, suggests that the price increases are likely accurate. Despite the higher prices, there is some good news for potential buyers of the Pixel Watch 5. The smartwatch is expected to come in four color options, including the new ‘Pyrite’ shade, along with the returning ‘Natural Silver’, ‘Dark Anthracite’, and ‘Warm Gold’ variants.
The launch of the Pixel Watch 5 is just weeks away, with Google confirming an event on 12 August. While there is no official mention of smartwatches at the event, it is highly anticipated that the Pixel Watch 5 will be unveiled alongside the Pixel 11 series. The expected price hikes may raise concerns about the smartwatch’s competitiveness in the market, but only time will tell how it will fare among the best smartwatches available for purchase. Stay tuned for more updates as the launch date approaches.
