GOP has ‘better plan’ on economy, immigration, crime and more in brutal poll for Dems
The latest Reuters/Ipsos poll reveals that more Americans believe Republicans have a stronger plan than Democrats on key issues such as the economy, immigration, crime, gun control, and political extremism. The survey, which questioned over 1,000 US adults, showed that the GOP was favored over Democrats in seven out of 11 policy areas.
Republicans received their highest marks in crime and immigration, with a 20 percentage point and 18 percentage point lead over Democrats, respectively. They also held a significant advantage in how they would handle foreign conflicts and the US economy, with a 35%-23% and 34%-24% lead over Democrats, respectively.
Despite gun control being a top issue for many Democratic politicians, Americans also favored the GOP approach by a 4 percentage point margin. Additionally, in the wake of the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, political extremism has become a major concern for voters, with 28% listing it as their top issue.
Respondents backed Republican plans for dealing with political extremism over Democratic ones by 4 percentage points. On the issue of corruption, the GOP also came out on top, with 27% favoring their plans compared to 21% for Democrats.
However, Democrats scored well on their plans for the environment and women’s rights, with double-digit leads over Republicans in both areas. They were also favored for their plans on healthcare (by 9 percentage points) and respect for democracy (by 2 percentage points).
The survey, conducted between September 19 and September 21, had a margin of error of 3 percentage points. President Trump’s approval rating was measured at 41%, down 1 percentage point from a previous poll conducted earlier in the month.
Overall, the poll indicates that Republicans are perceived to have a stronger plan than Democrats on several key issues, highlighting the ongoing political divisions in the United States.
