GOP Senators’ ‘Utterly Absurd’ Trump War Logic Prompts Damning Comparison
Senator John Kennedy (R-La.) faced criticism on Wednesday for his defense of President Donald Trump’s decision to attack Iran, with many accusing him of using Orwellian logic.
During an interview on Fox Business with Larry Kudlow, Kennedy claimed that the US had no choice but to go into Iran, stating that the president was trying to prevent a war rather than start one.
He also echoed Trump’s unsubstantiated claim that Iran was rapidly increasing its missile arsenal and posed a growing threat to the US. Kennedy went on to assert that Iran was solely responsible for the blockade of the vital shipping lane, the Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant portion of the world’s oil passes.
“Iran is to blame for shutting it down, not us. We are not at fault,” he insisted.
These remarks were met with swift backlash, with critics drawing parallels between Kennedy’s arguments and the twisted logic employed by the authoritarian regime in George Orwell’s dystopian novel “1984.”
One critic even quoted a line from the book, “War is peace,” to highlight the contradictory nature of Kennedy’s statements.
Overall, Kennedy’s defense of Trump’s actions in Iran was met with skepticism and accusations of using manipulative rhetoric to justify military aggression.
