Hartford Bakery, Inc. voluntarily recalls hundreds of loaves of artisanal bread sold in 12 states
Hartford Bakery, Inc. has issued a voluntary recall of its “Lewis Bake Shop Artisan Style 1/2 Loaf” due to potential undeclared hazelnuts in the product, as reported by the Food and Drug Administration. This poses a risk for individuals with nut allergies or a severe sensitivity to hazelnuts, who may experience serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume the bread.
While there have been no significant reports of injury or illness related to the product, one customer did experience digestive discomfort after consumption. Additionally, complaints were received from consumers who noticed the presence of hazelnuts before consuming the bread. The product packaging mentions that it “may contain tree nuts,” but fails to specify the inclusion of hazelnuts.
Approximately 883 loaves of bread across six production lots are affected by the recall. Distribution of the recalled products took place at retailers such as Kroger and Walmart in several states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.
The affected product is packaged in a flexible plastic bag with specific markings for identification, including lot codes T10 174010206, T10 174010306, T10 174010406, T10 174020206, T10 174020306, and T10 174020406, as well as a net weight of 12oz (340g), UPC 24126018152, and an expiration date of 07/13/2025. The company has confirmed that no other lot codes are impacted, and all products within the specified lot codes are being removed from shelves.
Consumers who have purchased the “Lewis Bake Shop Artisan Style 1/2 Loaf” are advised to return the product to the point of purchase for a full refund. It is crucial for individuals with nut allergies to exercise caution and check product labels for any potential allergens. Stay informed and prioritize your health and safety when selecting food products.
