‘Hell on Wheels’ killer Mackenzie Shirilla lands new job in Ohio prison where she’s serving a life sentence

Mackenzie Shirilla, also known as the “Hell on Wheels” killer, has landed a new job in prison at the Ohio Reformatory for Women where she is serving a life sentence for a fatal crash in 2022. The 21-year-old murderer is now working in the prison kitchen, preparing and serving meals to other inmates.

According to prison officials, Shirilla had to undergo a medical exam to ensure she does not have any contagious diseases before being allowed to work around food, as per state guidelines. In addition, she is required to wear a hair net while on duty in the kitchen, as mandated by the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections regulations.

Inmates in Ohio can earn a minimal wage of $3 to $22 per month based on the hours worked, but Shirilla reportedly has other sources of income. It is said that she receives money from online sugar daddies for makeup and outfits when she is short on cash. Additionally, her parents are known to send her money regularly, according to Mary Katherine Crowder, a former inmate who served time with Shirilla.

Despite her privileged financial situation, Shirilla recently expressed boredom in prison, complaining to her mother about the lack of activities available to her. Known for her self-absorbed and spoiled demeanor, Shirilla was described by former friends as status-obsessed and quick to earn a reputation as a “mean girl” among inmates.

Shirilla was sentenced to life in prison in August 2023 for intentionally speeding into a building and killing her boyfriend and a friend. The case gained renewed attention following the release of the Netflix documentary “The Crash.” Although she is eligible for parole in October 2037, Shirilla’s new job in the prison kitchen has provided her with a sense of purpose and responsibility behind bars.
