Here are 3 big things to watch in the stock market this coming week
Club name FedEx is set to unveil its earnings soon after a holiday-shortened week that brought positive news on the Iran war and oil prices. In the upcoming week, we will also be keeping an eye on May inflation data, although there are some caveats to consider. Additionally, we are anticipating earnings from memory chipmaker Micron, a key player in the artificial intelligence industry.
FedEx earnings: FedEx will be reporting its fiscal 2026 fourth-quarter results on Tuesday evening, covering the period from March to May. This will be a significant print for several reasons. The reported results will encompass both FedEx and the newly spun-out FedEx Freight, which began trading independently on June 1. With the company transitioning to a traditional fiscal year ending in December, comparisons with previous estimates may be challenging. FedEx is expected to provide guidance for both the four-month June-to-September period and the seven-month transition window to December. Analysts are looking for updates on the company’s self-help initiatives and potential stock buybacks.
Inflation update: On Thursday morning, the Fed’s preferred inflation gauge, the personal consumption expenditures price index, will be released. Following recent statements from Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh, there is heightened interest in monetary policy. With recent fluctuations in energy prices due to geopolitical tensions, the inflation outlook may shift depending on developments in the Middle East.
Micron earnings: Micron is experiencing growth driven by high demand for memory chips used in data center servers. The company’s pricing commentary and updates on manufacturing capacity will be closely watched. Analysts are expecting Micron to report strong earnings and revenue figures.
Looking ahead to the upcoming week, key events include S&P Global PMI data, new home sales, and the PCE price index release. Earnings reports from companies such as Carnival Corp., Micron, and FedEx Freight will also be closely monitored.
