Inside Why ‘Home Improvement’ Is Not Coming Back Anytime Soon

Is a “Home Improvement” Reboot in the Works?

Unfortunately for fans of the beloved sitcom “Home Improvement,” it seems that a reboot of the show is not on the horizon. The show, which aired from 1991 to 1999 and starred Tim Allen as the lovable dad Tim Taylor, has been the subject of discussions for a potential revival over the years. However, there have been challenges in getting the original cast back together.

According to sources, Patricia Richardson, who played Jill Taylor, has expressed interest in reprising her role. But there have been obstacles in securing the participation of the three Taylor boys: Zachary Ty Bryan (Brad), Jonathan Taylor Thomas (Randy), and Taran Noah Smith (Mark).

In a recent interview, Tim Allen mentioned that there have been difficulties in moving the reboot forward due to “personality problems” with the actors who portrayed the Taylor sons. Bryan, now 44, is currently serving a 16-month sentence in a California jail for a DUI arrest. He has faced multiple legal issues in recent years, including domestic violence charges.

Meanwhile, Thomas and Smith have largely stepped away from acting. Thomas, known for his role as young Simba in “The Lion King,” has not been onscreen for many years. Smith, on the other hand, has been involved in various businesses, including teaching people how to pilot submarines.

Despite the challenges in reuniting the original cast, there have been occasional reunions over the years. Allen has reunited with some of his former co-stars on his current ABC series “Last Man Standing,” including Richardson and Karn. However, a full-fledged revival of “Home Improvement” does not seem to be in the cards at the moment.

While Hollywood executives have shown a fondness for reviving classic TV shows in recent years, it appears that the Taylor family may have taken their final bow. Only time will tell if a reunion of the iconic sitcom is in the stars.
