Justice Department probes NFL over antitrust concerns amid shift to streaming: report

The Department of Justice is currently investigating the NFL for potential anticompetitive practices, with concerns rising about the increasing difficulty and cost for fans to watch their favorite teams, as per a report.

Under the Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961, leagues are shielded from antitrust action, allowing teams to consolidate their media rights into extensive TV packages.

FCC Chair Brendan Carr recently mentioned to The Post that the NFL could risk losing its exemptions if it continues to place too many live games behind paywalls, with fans spending up to $1,500 annually to watch all professional football games across multiple streaming services.
