Kentucky bank shooting teen suspect Brailen Weaver arrested after 130 mph police chase
A suspect wearing a mask is facing federal charges after allegedly shooting and killing two bank employees at a US Bank branch in Berea, Kentucky. The incident occurred on April 30, and the suspect, identified as Brailen Weaver, is accused of entering the bank and immediately shooting and killing two employees, identified as Breanna Edwards and Brian Switzer.
After the shooting, Weaver checked multiple drawers and fled on foot. The case is being investigated as armed bank robbery and gun-related homicide. Weaver is facing federal charges, including armed bank robbery, using a firearm in a crime of violence, and causing death through the use of a firearm.
Investigators linked Weaver to the crime through surveillance footage, social media activity, and a vehicle believed to have been used in the escape. Surveillance video captured a suspect matching Weaver’s build wearing a mask, gloves, a light-colored hoodie, gray pants, and white sneakers. Additionally, a silver BMW seen leaving the area was tied to a Facebook account associated with Weaver.
Weaver was later spotted traveling on Interstate 75, leading to a high-speed chase involving federal, state, and local authorities. The chase reached speeds of over 100 mph before Weaver crashed the vehicle and fled on foot. A gun was recovered from the vehicle.
Kentucky State Police previously apprehended a person of interest believed to be involved in the robbery after a coordinated search. Switzer, one of the victims, leaves behind his wife and three children. A GoFundMe has been created to support his family in the wake of the tragedy.
US Bank expressed deep sadness over the incident and extended condolences to the families of the victims and the Berea community. The company is working closely with law enforcement and providing support to those affected. The investigation is ongoing, and the US Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Kentucky will hold a news conference to provide updates on the suspect’s arrest and federal charges.
Kentucky State Police and Weaver’s attorney have been contacted for additional comments. The investigation is ongoing, and further information will be provided as it becomes available.
