Kentucky Tesla driver smiles in mugshot after drunkenly plowing through crowd: cops

A Kentucky woman made headlines after she was arrested for allegedly driving her Tesla through a crowd of pedestrians while intoxicated. Kaydence Carpenter, 20, was captured in a mugshot flashing a smile at Fayette County Detention Center following the incident in downtown Lexington.

The troubling video footage shows Carpenter arguing with a group of people before quickly getting into her Tesla Model 3 and reversing over a curb into the pedestrians. Witnesses reported that Carpenter appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and failed a sobriety field test conducted by the police.

The Tesla then accelerated forward, hitting at least three people in the parking lot before driving the wrong way down a one-way street. Fortunately, the four victims are expected to make a full recovery from their injuries.

Carpenter, who was found shoeless and wearing minimal clothing, was pulled out of the driver’s seat by police officers and handcuffed. She exhibited signs of intoxication such as bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and a strong smell of alcohol. Additionally, a fake ID was found in her car.

Following her arrest, Carpenter was charged with four counts of second-degree assault, first-degree wanton endangerment, DUI, reckless driving, and other related charges. She refused to take a breathalyzer test and pleaded not guilty to the charges. Her driver’s license was suspended, and she was released from jail after posting a $5,000 bond.

Carpenter is set to appear in court on April 14, with her attorney unavailable for comment at this time. The incident serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence and the potential consequences of such actions.
