Lexus-riding vandal who allegedly smashed up, slashed tires of 11 NYPD vehicles busted, promptly cut loose in court
A Long Island man found himself in hot water after allegedly vandalizing several police cruisers parked outside the NYPD’s newest station house. Christian Genwright, 22, of Valley Stream, reportedly defaced and damaged nearly a dozen police vehicles near the 116th Precinct headquarters in Rosedale.
The incident occurred late at night when Genwright used a knife to slash the tires of seven vehicles and smashed the windshields of four others with a hammer. The vandalism caused significant damage to the vehicles, including deploying an airbag in one of them. After the destructive spree, Genwright fled the scene in a luxury getaway car.
Authorities caught up with Genwright the following day when he was spotted driving the silver Lexus on 244th Street. When officers attempted to pull him over, he intentionally reversed, nearly hitting their cruiser. Genwright was subsequently arrested and charged with reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, resisting arrest, and criminal possession of a weapon.
During his arraignment, Genwright faced ten counts of criminal mischief and was released on supervised release by Judge Jennifer Tubridy. Despite having six prior arrests, including one for violating traffic laws and fleeing from police, Genwright was not eligible for bail under state law.
Genwright is scheduled to appear in court on January 21 to face the charges related to the vandalism of the police vehicles. The 116th Precinct station house, which opened less than a year ago in December 2024, serves the neighborhoods of Rosedale, Springfield Gardens, Brookville, and Laurelton. It is the first entirely new NYPD command established in over a decade, with the last one opening in 2013.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety and security of police vehicles and the need for stricter measures to prevent such acts of vandalism in the future. Police officers continue to patrol the neighborhoods under the jurisdiction of the 116th Precinct, ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.
