Man faces sixth DUI after being found slumped over wheel at suburban intersection, officials say
Repeat DUI Offender Found Slumped Over Wheel with BAC Four Times Legal Limit
An Addison man, Goran Brkic, 56, has been arrested for DUI for the sixth time in his life after police discovered him slumped over the wheel of his car at a busy intersection. His blood alcohol concentration was nearly four times the legal limit.
Brkic was charged with aggravated DUI – sixth or subsequent violation, a Class X felony, and was ordered detained by Judge Joshua Dieden, according to officials.
Addison police officers received a report of a driver slumped over the wheel at Lake Street and Mill Road. They found Brkic’s vehicle in the left turn lane on westbound Lake Street and positioned squad cars to prevent the vehicle from moving.
When officers approached Brkic, he was disoriented and unable to put his car into park. Officers detected an odor of alcohol and conducted a breath test, which showed a BAC of .301, significantly exceeding the legal limit of .08.
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin expressed concern over Brkic’s repeated disregard for the law, especially driving with such a high BAC on a busy road in the morning. Addison Police Chief Roy Selvik commented on Brkic’s history of endangering lives on the road.
If convicted, Brkic could face a prison sentence ranging from six to 30 years.
