Mary Cosby was interviewed by police weeks before her son Robert Cosby Jr.’s death and was questioned about her son’s alleged involvement in a domestic violence incident, as revealed by TMZ.
According to a Salt Lake City Police report, Robert’s then-wife, Alexiana Smokoff, contacted law enforcement on November 23, 2025.
Alexiana alleged that in May 2024, Robert became physically violent towards her after she disposed of his drugs. She claimed that he choked her and spat on her during the altercation, causing her to lose consciousness.
The incident reportedly took place at Mary’s residence, as per court documents.
Police interviewed Mary on January 9, 2026, where she stated that she was unaware of any physical altercations between Robert and his ex-wife, claiming they only engaged in verbal disputes.
Mary refuted claims of her son being violent, stating that she did not raise him in that manner. She mentioned an incident where he sustained injuries after jumping off a balcony while under the influence.
During his incarceration, Robert admitted to using fentanyl and experiencing memory loss regarding the 2024 altercation, per police reports.
Robert confessed to informing his mother about the physical altercation with his wife, attributing his behavior to a period of psychosis where he acted erratically.
Following the incident, Alexiana filed for divorce, which was finalized while Robert was in custody.
At the time of his death on February 23, 23-year-old Robert was facing domestic violence charges related to the 2024 incident, as previously reported by TMZ.
