Mississippi teen Jimmy Chilimigras becomes youngest law degree graduate in Louisiana state history

A remarkable Louisiana teen prodigy has made history by becoming the youngest person in the state to earn a law degree. James “Jimmy” Chilimigras, at the age of 18, graduated summa cum laude with his Juris Doctor (JD) from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law, marking a significant achievement in his already impressive academic journey.

Chilimigras, hailing from Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, has demonstrated exceptional academic prowess from a young age. He was homeschooled and completed high school at the tender age of 12. By the age of 15, he had already obtained a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in accounting. In 2023, Chilimigras became a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), making him the youngest individual in the world to achieve this milestone.

Driven by his passion for law, Chilimigras embarked on his journey towards a JD at the age of 15. Despite the challenges, he remained focused and dedicated, ultimately graduating alongside his peers at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans.

Dean Madeleine Landrieu of Loyola’s College of Law commended Chilimigras for his exceptional impact on the school. His classmates admired his intelligence, maturity, and kindness, creating a supportive environment for his academic pursuits. Chilimigras ranked in the top 2 percent of his class, excelling in numerous courses and earning the highest grade in 40% of all the courses he undertook.

During his time at Loyola, Chilimigras distinguished himself as an Ignatian Law Scholar and was recognized as a William L. Crowe, Sr. Scholar, a prestigious title awarded to the top 10 percent of the graduating class. His dedication and hard work were evident as he completed five distinct course concentration areas while maintaining a summa cum laude GPA, a feat he describes as the most intense challenge he has faced.

Chilimigras earned certificates in various concentration areas, including taxation law, social justice, immigration and citizenship law, international legal studies, and technology and entrepreneurship. His achievement of graduating with more than four certificates of concentration is believed to be unmatched at Loyola, showcasing his exceptional academic abilities.

Despite his historic accomplishments, Chilimigras remains humble and driven to continue his educational journey. He is set to attend Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law to pursue his fourth degree, a Masters of Law (LLM) in taxation, with the goal of completing his studies and receiving his fourth degree by the age of 20.

The proud father of Chilimigras, John, expressed his immense pride in his son’s achievements, emphasizing the hard work and dedication that led to his success. Chilimigras’ story serves as an inspiration to many, highlighting the power of perseverance and determination in achieving one’s dreams.
