Ncuti Gatwa Takes Aim at ‘Doctor Who’ in ‘SNL U.K.’ Monologue

Ncuti Gatwa, known for his role in “Doctor Who,” recently hosted the season finale of “Saturday Night Live U.K.” on May 16. During his monologue, Gatwa humorously poked fun at the lack of enthusiasm for the latest seasons of “Doctor Who” and the unexpected climax of the Season 15 finale where his character regenerated into Billie Piper.

Gatwa joked about his various roles, mentioning his popular portrayal of Eric in “Sex Education” and the lesser-known stint in “Doctor Who.” Despite the regeneration confusion, Gatwa expressed his love for the show and the opportunity to meet unique characters, similar to the ones on “Saturday Night Live U.K.”

The episode also featured indie-pop singer-songwriter Holly Humberstone as the musical guest. Following the success of the first season, Sky announced the renewal of “Saturday Night Live U.K.” for a second season, set to air in fall 2026 and early 2027 with 12 episodes.

Notable hosts from the first season included Tina Fey, Jamie Dornan, Riz Ahmed, and others, with musical guests like Foo Fighters and Wolf Alice. The cast of “SNL U.K.” includes talented individuals like Hammed Animashaun and Emma Sidi.

Produced by Universal Television Alternative Studio’s U.K. team and Broadway Video for Sky and NOW, “SNL U.K.” is executive produced by Lorne Michaels. The show airs live on Sky and NOW in the U.K. and is available on Peacock in the U.S. the following day.

With its blend of comedic sketches, musical performances, and celebrity guests, “Saturday Night Live U.K.” continues to entertain audiences and is poised for another successful season ahead.
