New Season From Stefano Sollima Set at Netflix

Netflix has officially given the green light for a new three-episode installment of the popular Italian original series, “The Monster of Florence.” Directed by Stefano Sollima, known for his work in the genre, the first chapter of this true crime series made its debut at the 2025 Venice Film Festival before becoming a hit on Netflix, quickly rising to the top of the global non-English-language shows chart.

Filming is currently underway for what promises to be a fresh take on Italy’s most infamous true crime case, offering a new perspective on the Monster of Florence investigation. The series delves into the chilling story of a serial killer who terrorized Florence by committing eight double murders over a span of 17 years, targeting couples in secluded locations with a .22 caliber Beretta.

The initial season of “The Monster of Florence” explored the “Sardinian lead” in the police investigation, highlighting various suspects who were believed to be the killer at different points in time. The upcoming installment focuses on the “Snack Buddies” lead, honing in on Pietro Pacciani, a Tuscan farm worker who was convicted in 1994 for seven of the double murders. Despite having his conviction overturned on appeal in 1996, Pacciani’s story remains shrouded in mystery, making him a central figure in one of Italy’s most enduring criminal investigations.

Director Stefano Sollima expressed his vision for the series as an anthology, with each season dedicated to a different suspect involved in the Monster of Florence murders. In this new chapter, the focus shifts to Pacciani and the infamous “Snack Buddies,” a case that has divided public opinion in Italy for decades. The unresolved nature of Pacciani’s guilt adds an unsettling layer to the narrative, as the truth behind the crimes remains elusive.

The limited series marks a collaboration between Sollima, writer Leonardo Fasoli, and cinematographer Paolo Carnera, known for their work on acclaimed projects like “Gomorrah” and “ZeroZeroZero.” Produced by Wildside, a Fremantle company, and Sollima’s AlterEgo production company, the new chapter in “The Monster of Florence” promises to captivate audiences with its gripping storytelling and complex characters.

With a talented team behind the camera and a compelling story at its core, “The Monster of Florence” is set to continue its success on Netflix, offering viewers a fresh perspective on one of Italy’s most notorious true crime cases. Stay tuned for more updates on this thrilling series as production progresses.
