NYC baby clinging to life after being repeatedly punched in the head: cops
A horrifying incident occurred in a Bronx apartment where a one-year-old baby girl was allegedly punched in the head by a 19-year-old man named Jerome Thomas. The incident took place around 2:30 a.m. on a Thursday in a Woodstock apartment. Thomas was charged with first-degree assault and child endangerment for his actions.
When the police arrived at the scene after receiving a distress call, they found Thomas, a 25-year-old woman, and the injured baby inside the Union Avenue apartment. The baby was in a semi-conscious state and was immediately rushed to Harlem Hospital in critical but stable condition.
It is unclear whether the woman or Thomas are the biological parents of the baby or what their relationship was. Detectives were seen collecting evidence from the apartment on Saturday afternoon.
Neighbors of the trio revealed that they were new to the building, and it was believed that Thomas and the woman were in a relationship. Nicole LaCroix, a neighbor, mentioned that she had spent time with the mother and Thomas, as they were new to the area. She recalled interacting with the baby and described her as an active one-year-old.
LaCroix mentioned that her daughter had heard arguments coming from the apartment, and she regretted not intervening to help. Another neighbor, Anthony, confirmed that the couple often fought, with the woman even throwing Thomas’ clothes out into the hallway during arguments.
Thomas pleaded not guilty to the charges during his arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court, where he was ordered to be remanded without bail. His next court date is set for September 4, and his lawyer was unavailable for comment.
The incident has shocked the community, and the well-being of the baby girl remains a concern for everyone involved. The police are continuing their investigation into the matter to ensure justice is served for the innocent child.
