Pablo Larrain Alex de la Iglesia, Santiago Mitre Direct Netflix Titles
Netflix is making big moves in Argentina with the unveiling of a new 20,000 sq. ft. office in Buenos Aires. Following the success of its hit show “The Eternaut,” the streaming giant is set to release a diverse slate of series, films, and documentaries in the coming year.
This new office marks Netflix’s third location in Latin America, with larger offices in Mexico City and São Paulo, Brazil. According to Netflix vice president of content for Latin America, Francisco Ramos, Argentina’s rich history in storytelling and creative talent make it a key player in the region.
The upcoming lineup includes a variety of projects from top-notch talent. Director Santiago Mitre, known for his Oscar-nominated film “Argentina, 1985,” is working on a new untitled political thriller. Ricardo Darin, star of “The Eternaut,” will return to the big screen in “Lo dejamos acá,” directed by Hernán Goldfrid.
Spanish director Alex de la Iglesia will adapt the play “Congratulations” into a film starring Adrian Suar and Griselda Siciliani. Additionally, popular TV shows like “Envious” and “In The Mud” will be returning with new seasons.
Netflix is also branching out into short-form content with the first Argentinian short-form series, “Carísima,” created by Caro Pardíaco. Documentaries remain a focus for the platform, with upcoming releases like “Yiya Murano: Death at Tea Time” and profiles on Argentine figures like soccer star Emiliano Martínez and singer-songwriter Fito Páez.
Looking ahead, Netflix is working on highly anticipated projects like the animated series “Mafalda” by Juan José Campanella and the dystopian mini-series “The Future is Ours,” based on Philip K. Dick’s novel. With a strong commitment to the Argentinian market and a growing portfolio of content, Netflix is poised to continue its success in the region.
