Pacha charging up to $800 for VIP tickets to opening weekend
Pacha New York, the successor to the popular Brooklyn Mirage concert venue, has finally announced its long-awaited opening weekend of dance music shows. However, the ticket prices have caused quite a stir among music fans.
Tickets for the June 21 weekend at Pacha New York start at a minimum of $150, a significant increase compared to the $20 starting price at the Mirage. VIP tickets for “backstage dancing” during British DJ Michael Bibi’s show are priced at a staggering $672, while general tickets for the following day’s show featuring South African DJ Black Coffee are $177, with VIP tickets going for an eye-watering $800.
Last year, tickets for an event featuring Sara Landry at the Mirage started at just $56, despite Landry having more Spotify streams than Bibi. Landry’s show had to be moved to the Knockdown Center due to permit issues at the Mirage, a problem that seems to have carried over to Pacha.
Pacha Group, the parent company of Pacha New York, acquired the Mirage with plans to demolish and rebuild the venue. However, delays have prevented construction from moving forward. The company has assured fans that the venue will be ready for its June 20 opening weekend and has offered coupons to those who lost money when the Mirage failed to open last summer.
Despite the anticipation for Pacha’s reopening, some neighbors have expressed concerns about the venue potentially causing disturbance in the residential area. However, the main point of contention among partygoers seems to be the steep ticket prices, with many feeling that the venue is becoming more focused on being a high-end club rather than an event space.
Social media has been abuzz with complaints about the pricing, with some lamenting the end of affordable rave culture in New York City. Many have criticized the surge in prices and the introduction of expensive VIP packages, with some calling it a money-grabbing move by the venue.
As fans express their disappointment and frustration over the pricing strategy, it remains to be seen how Pacha New York will respond to the backlash.
