Pirates fan, Kavan Markwood, who fell 21 feet at PNC Park charged with prowling at ex-girlfriend’s home
Kavan Markwood, the Pittsburgh Pirates fan who made headlines after falling 21 feet at PNC Park, is now facing charges of prowling at his ex-girlfriend’s home. The incident occurred in the middle of the night, less than two weeks after Markwood was invited back to the stadium to throw out the first pitch.
According to court records obtained by TribLive, Markwood, 21, allegedly attempted to forcefully gain entry into his former girlfriend’s home around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday. The Brentwood police responded to a call about Markwood trying to enter the residence, where his ex-girlfriend reported receiving numerous text messages from him in recent weeks expressing suspicion about another man being with her.
When police found Markwood in his vehicle down the street from the residence, they detected a strong alcohol odor on his breath. He has been charged with one misdemeanor count of loitering and prowling at nighttime.
Markwood denied the allegations against him, claiming they were not true. He mentioned that he has faced multiple challenges this year and would clarify his reasons for being at his ex-girlfriend’s home in court.
Prior to this incident, Markwood’s ex-girlfriend had obtained a temporary protection-from-abuse order against him due to his alleged heavy drinking, verbal abuse, and destruction of her belongings. A preliminary hearing for Markwood is scheduled for November 18.
In April, Markwood gained notoriety for falling over the Clemente Wall at PNC Park during a game, resulting in severe injuries including a broken neck, clavicle, back, punctured lung, and broken ribs. Despite the fall, Markwood insisted that alcohol was not a factor.
Despite the recent legal troubles, Markwood received a warm welcome from the Pirates organization on September 20 when he was invited to throw the first pitch at a game against the Athletics. Markwood continues to struggle with the trauma of his fall, expressing gratitude for surviving the ordeal and relying on faith to cope with the aftermath.
