‘Ponies’ Canceled at Peacock After One Season
Peacock, the streaming platform, has made the decision to cancel the Cold War spy thriller series “Ponies” after just one season. The show, starring Emilia Clarke and Haley Lu Richardson, premiered its entire eight-episode first season on January 15. Despite receiving positive reviews from critics and holding a 94% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, “Ponies” did not perform well in terms of viewership, failing to make an appearance on the Nielsen streaming top 10 charts.
The series follows the story of two “PONIES” (persons of no interest) who work as secretaries in the American Embassy in Moscow in 1977. When their husbands are killed under mysterious circumstances in the USSR, the pair becomes CIA operatives. Bea, played by Clarke, is a Russian-speaking child of Soviet immigrants, while Twila, portrayed by Richardson, is a fearless small-town girl. Together, they uncover a vast Cold War conspiracy and solve the mystery that led to their husbands’ deaths.
Created by David Iserson and Susanna Fogel, “Ponies” also had Mike Daniels as a co-showrunner and executive producer. Clarke not only starred in the series but also served as an executive producer. The show was produced by Universal Television and directed by Fogel in four of the eight episodes.
Unfortunately, despite its critical acclaim, Peacock decided not to renew “Ponies” for a second season. Fans of the show will have to say goodbye to the thrilling Cold War espionage drama that captivated audiences with its intriguing storyline and compelling performances by the talented cast.
