Sailboat’s location data blackout during Lynette Hooker disappearance could be ‘key question’ for investigators: expert

A former federal prosecutor who specializes in no-body murder cases has raised concerns about the disappearance of a missing American woman, Lynette Hooker, and the actions of her husband, Brian Hooker. The couple set sail from Hope Town in the Bahamas on April 4, with Brian claiming that Lynette fell overboard due to rough waters. Brian paddled back to shore and arrived at Marsh Harbour the following morning, leaving many questions unanswered.

One key question that has emerged in the investigation is why the Hookers’ sailboat, Soulmate, stopped transmitting location data on the night Lynette disappeared. Data obtained from marine tracking company VesselFinder shows that the AIS system on the Soulmate went dark at 9:29 p.m. on April 4 and only resumed at 8:40 a.m. the next day, a blackout of over 11 hours.

Tad DiBiase, a former federal prosecutor and expert in no-body homicide cases, highlighted the suspicious nature of the timing of the tracking system going offline. He emphasized the importance of understanding why and how this occurred, suggesting that it could provide crucial evidence in the case.

Authorities, including the Coast Guard Investigative Service, are conducting a criminal investigation into Lynette Hooker’s disappearance. Recently, U.S. authorities requested clearance from the Bahamian government to search a new area in the Sea of Abaco based on GPS data that allegedly contradicted Brian Hooker’s initial account of the events.

The renewed search efforts will focus on an area with waters reaching depths of 25 feet, based on GPS data from Brian Hooker’s phone and the movements of the Hookers’ dinghy. The Coast Guard seized the Soulmate in May and moved it to Fort Lauderdale for further investigation.

Brian Hooker’s attorney has urged the public to give him the benefit of the doubt, emphasizing that everyone handles situations differently. However, with the ongoing criminal investigation and the discrepancies in the information provided, the case of Lynette Hooker’s disappearance remains shrouded in mystery and suspicion.
