A terrifying incident unfolded for Cassandra Light, a life coach from San Diego, during a recent trip to Tijuana, Mexico. What was supposed to be a relaxing beach getaway turned into a nightmare when she narrowly escaped an attempted carjacking at gunpoint.
Light shared her harrowing experience, revealing that someone tried to steal her car while she was driving back from Rosarito. Multiple shots were fired at her car, with one bullet passing through her leg, shattering her tibia and fibula. Another bullet pierced her car, narrowly missing her beloved golden retriever, Ellie, who was inside the vehicle.
Despite her injuries, Light managed to stay conscious and saw Ellie’s face in the backseat, giving her the strength to keep going. However, the pain soon became unbearable, and she collapsed, unable to walk due to the gunshot wounds. Thankfully, Ellie jumped out of the car and stayed by Light’s side, providing comfort during the terrifying ordeal.
Two kind strangers came to Light’s aid, with one of them helping to tie a tourniquet to stop the bleeding before emergency personnel arrived. She was rushed to a hospital in San Diego, where she underwent multiple surgeries to repair the damage, including the insertion of a metal plate, rod, and screws in her leg.
The road to recovery will be long and challenging, with months of physical therapy ahead to regain the ability to walk. Light expressed her gratitude for Ellie’s unwavering support throughout the ordeal, with the dog accompanying her in the ambulance, remaining by her side during surgeries, and providing comfort during the darkest moments of her recovery.
Despite the physical and emotional challenges she faces, Light remains determined to give back. She plans to have Ellie trained and certified as a therapy dog so they can bring comfort to others in need, just as they received comfort during their own difficult times.
The financial impact of the incident has been overwhelming for Light, with medical bills, inability to work, legal fees, and rehabilitation costs adding to the burden. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support her during this challenging time.
