Southern California ‘Co-branded’ Bed Bath & Beyond stores announced

Bed Bath & Beyond’s revival is making its way to California.

After closing all stores during bankruptcy, the retailer is set to open two new co-branded stores in California as part of its comeback strategy.

The new stores will be housed within The Container Store locations in Los Angeles and Costa Mesa, according to a release.

These openings are part of a larger plan to introduce 22 new co-branded Bed Bath & Beyond and The Container Store stores across the country.

The retail reunion follows financial struggles for both brands, with Bed Bath & Beyond filing for bankruptcy in 2023 and The Container Store facing similar issues in 2024.

Earlier this year, Bed Bath & Beyond’s parent company, Beyond, Inc., announced the acquisition of The Container Store, paving the way for the new co-branded stores.

The initial 22 stores are just the beginning, with additional locations scheduled to convert in the “coming several weeks” as the company builds out what it calls its “everything home” ecosystem. Bed Bath & Beyond and The Container Store

Under this new format, customers will find a seamless integration of merchandise at The Container Store locations, offering a one-stop shop for home organization, bedding, decor, kitchen essentials, and more.

According to Executive Chairman and CEO of Bed Bath & Beyond, Inc., Marcus Lemonis, “Our customers don’t think about their homes in categories. For decades, customers have had to visit multiple retailers, websites, and service providers to complete a single home project. One company for bedding, another for storage, another for closets, another for installation. That model no longer works.”

The expansion into California is significant as BB&B had previously stated they would not reopen standalone stores in the state due to high operating costs.

Beyond, Inc. is building a home-goods empire that includes Overstock, buybuy BABY, and now The Container Store.

The initial 22 stores are just the beginning, with more locations set to open in the coming weeks as part of the company’s “everything home” ecosystem.
