Suspects crash through Camp Pendleton gate with 112 pounds of cocaine and fentanyl
A dramatic six-hour manhunt at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in California came to a close with the apprehension of two suspects who breached the installation while being pursued by local law enforcement. The suspects abandoned their vehicle, which was found to contain over 112 pounds of cocaine and fentanyl, before fleeing on foot.
The Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) described the incident as “high-stakes” and stated that the suspects crashed through a gate at the base, prompting a temporary shelter-in-place order as authorities scrambled to secure the area. A multi-agency search involving approximately 30 personnel was launched to locate the suspects, with real-time intelligence and tracking support from NCIS aiding in the operation.
After six hours of searching the sprawling base, both suspects were taken into custody without incident. The investigation revealed a significant amount of drugs, with over 112 pounds of cocaine and fentanyl discovered inside the abandoned vehicle. The collaboration between NCIS, Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Camp Pendleton Provost Marshal’s Office, DEA, US Border Patrol, and other responding agencies was highlighted for their seamless teamwork in keeping military installations safe.
The identities of the suspects were not immediately released, nor were the charges they may face. The successful resolution of the manhunt was a testament to the coordination and dedication of law enforcement agencies working together to ensure the security of military installations.
