‘The Naturalist’ TV Show in the Works at ABC From ‘CSI’ Alums
ABC Developing Series Adaptation of Andrew Mayne’s “The Naturalist” Book Series
ABC is currently in active development on a series adaptation of Andrew Mayne’s popular “The Naturalist” book series. The project is described as a procedural following a brilliant but socially estranged biologist who uses the laws of animal behavior to hunt human predators. The twist? The protagonist has his own dark secrets, turning each case into a study of himself.
The series will be written by Andrew Karlsruher, known for his work on “MacGyver” and “CSI: Cyber.” Executive producers include Veritas Entertainment’s Peter Jaysen and Alan Gasmer, as well as Danny Cannon, who directed the original “CSI” pilot.
“The Naturalist” book series, consisting of the first novel released in 2017 and sequels “Looking Glass,” “Murder Theory,” and “Dark Pattern,” has been a bestseller on Amazon. The first installment was even nominated for an International Thriller Writers Award for best original paperback novel in 2019.
Author Andrew Mayne is also known for his other works such as “The Girl Beneath the Sea” and “Angel Killer.” His upcoming book, “The Session,” is set to be published in October. Mayne is represented by Erica Spellman Silverman at Trident Media Group and Pooneh Aminian at TroyGould.
Andrew Karlsruher, the writer of the series, previously co-wrote the pilot “Do Harm” for the Onyx Collective and worked as a producer on CBS’ “Bull.” He currently serves as the head of character for robotics company Familiar Machines & Magic. Karlsruher is represented by Gersh, Writ Large, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller.
Director and executive producer Danny Cannon, known for his work on pilots for “CSI,” “Nikita,” “Gotham,” and “Pennyworth,” is also attached to the project. He is represented by MGMT Entertainment and Innovative Artists.
“The Naturalist” is a production of Veritas Entertainment, founded by Peter Jaysen and Alan Gasmer. The company is known for optioning intellectual property and developing it into successful Hollywood projects, including the Timothée Chalamet Bob Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown,” as well as “Vikings,” “Dublin Murders,” and “Fahrenheit 451.”
